10:00: Inspections and Authorizations

Melees start at 11:00 in the following order:

Crestfallen TournamentModelled after the heavy combatants 'Crestfallen' tournament a few years ago: The combatants may attach crests to their helmets, which should be not shorter than three inches and not taller than twelve inches tall. If combatants do not have crests of their own, crests will be provided. The crests are targets - knocking off a crest counts as a kill, just as a sufficient blow to the body or the head is a kill. The format of the tournament may change depending on attendance, and will either be a round-robin style (in which every combatant will fight every other combatant) or double-elimination style (fighters will be organized into a tree structure and are allowed two losses). Fighters receive one point per victory in a bout. Winner will be the fighter with the most points.

Bear Pit A standard bear pit - victor holds the field until they are defeated - with various options depending on turnout.

Tavern Brawl: Classic tavern brawl melee. Kids will start in the middle of the field with weapons scattered around the edge of the field. At the cry of "Lay on!", combatants will seek out weapons and then engage. When someone is killed, they have to drop their weapon and someone else can pick it up.

2:30 - Kittens and Lava: In a typical Kittens And Lava scenario, youth combatants will cross a field of lava, rescuing as many kittens as possible, avoiding hazards and dragons, within a set time limit. Points will be awarded for killing dragons, number of rescued kittens, and successful navigation of the field. (For those of you who haven't seen it, we mark a section of the list field as "lava", and place "stones" - pieces of fabric in rough stone shapes, which are a variety of different sizes - at random places. Combatants will cross the field by stepping or leaping from stone to stone. Kittens will be plush toys (not all necessarily kittens). Dragons are combatants who can walk on lava, but who are usually restricted to a zone halfway across the field. Dragons are typically Level 3 fighters or adult heavy weapons fighters with Youth Sparring authorizations, also armed with youth combat weapons.) When a dragon is slain it ‘sleeps’ for a period of time - usually thirty seconds - during which it cannot attack the youth combatant. All points are awarded when the combatant steps on the final stone. Points are typically awarded as follows: A youth combatant who reaches the last stone in the lava field receives 5 points .Each time the dragon is slain the combatant receives 10 points. Each rescued kitten is worth 1 point. Each kitten who falls in the lava earns -1 point. To make this even more fun and challenging, we reserve the right to add twists - we will consider inviting heavy armored fighters with Youth Sparring authorizations - that is, adult fighters who are authorized to fight kids using the kids' rules and calibration - to run the course, and ask the youth fighters to be dragons. We might remove the 'dragon zone' so the adults are always in danger of getting attacked by the dragons, we might allow multiple runners and multiple dragons, we might disallow the use of shields - there are many options. (And more rules that go along with the options, of course.)
